What is a Christian?
What is a Christian?
Simply put – one in whom the Holy Spirit dwells.
A Christian is one who believes in God, acknowledges their failure to meet His expectations, and accepts that the life and death of Jesus is sufficient for reconciliation with their creator and desires that reconciliation. In baptism the old man perishes and a new, clean man rises fit to receive the Holy Spirit, who is life eternal.
You are now a Christian, but your journey has only begun. To grow into the full measure of God’s desire for you will take the rest of your life. You do this by reading, studying, and applying His word, and continued growth in obedience to His will for you. This requires effort, commitment, and love. You are not alone, but part of a body in which every member makes a contribution and victory is achieved through the efforts of the whole, not a collection of individual effort.
The basis for the process discussed above is given in Acts, chapter 2, verse 38.
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
There is much more to say but it has already been said in scripture. Read it, study it, know it, live it – that is the duty of every Christian.
