The Sabbath

The Sabbath

These are God’s words.

I don’t want you to keep a day – I want you to keep every day, all day, holy to Me. The Sabbath was created as a separation, and that separation no longer exists. As I said in Galatians, you are free to observe any day, but doing so misses the point of total and complete dedication to Me.

The Bride cannot be a part-time Christian. Your lives must be whole – not divided into days. If you are dedicated to observing the Sabbath, or any other day, you are missing the point.

It is interesting that God cites Galatians for permitting (not commanding) sabbath observance rather than Romans 14:5-6 which would seem to more directly address this subject.

One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.” NASB

God’s point is much broader than days or specifically circumcision (in Galatians). Freedom from rules in laws and traditions are replaced by a desire to please God in other terms. This is the contrast between the Old Covenant (blind obedience = keep the law because it’s the law) vs the New Covenant (willing obedience = doing God’s will because you want to). This is why a commandment in the Old Testament is not the same thing as a commandment in the New Testament, and circumcision of the flesh is replaced by circumcision of the heart (Romans 2:28-29).
